The Shape of the Fire to Come

We’re no longer just throwing ‘what ifs’ about — the ‘debut’ PYROCLAST album is happening.

Rather than record a standalone single and then tackle the album, we’ve decided to do everything at the same time. We’re going to record the whole album in one go, and choose the first single from those sessions. It’ll take a little longer, but we’d rather do it right than rush a song out that ends up sounding disconnected from the rest.

Right now, we’re still undecided on what that first single will be — it’s between “Pyroclast”, the title track, and “Prisoner Game”, which we’ve already played live.

“Pyroclast” is about destruction and rebirth — a volcanic eruption made into music. No warning, no escape, just a wall of fire and ash tearing everything down.

“Prisoner Game” is based on the Stanford Prison Experiment, where volunteers were split into guards and prisoners and everything went downhill fast. The song deals with the breakdown of identity, how easy it is to cross lines, and how no one leaves a system like that unchanged.

We’ve started the fire — now we just need to shape it.
